Announcing the new DEI Committee
We are happy to announce the creation of a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee. The idea for this committee was born at IMPS 2024 in Prague, following many conversations among members about the representation of women, people of colour, and LGBTQ+ folk in the Psychometric Society. The Board of Trustees gave us the mandate to form the committee and draft a DEI code of conduct. The Code of Conduct is now approved by the Board of Trustees and uploaded to the society’s website.
The members of the DEI Committee are:
- Aditi M. Bhangale (PhD candidate, Leiden University, The Netherlands)
- Camilo Cardenas-Hurtado (Postdoctoral Researcher, London School of Economics, United Kingdom)
- Irini Moustaki (Committee Chair; Professor, London School of Economics, United Kingdom)
- Victoria Savalei (Professor, University of British Columbia, Canada)
- Steffi Pohl (Member of the BoT; Professor, Freie Universität Berlin, Germany)
- Hyo Jeong Shin (Assistant Professor, Sogang University, South Korea)
- Jonathan Templin (Professor, College of Education at the University of Iowa)
The tasks of the DEI committee will include, but are not limited to:
- Organising conversations and panel discussions about equity, diversity, and intersectionality in academia,
- Organising events to support early-career members and better represent them in the Society,
- Reviewing the scientific programme of the annual meeting and providing recommendations to the President and the programme committee on how we can represent researchers from varying backgrounds, and
- Creating biennial reports on diversity statistics for the Psychometric Society committees and awards.
While we are excited to work on these tasks, we are also interested in your suggestions for events, discussions, and speakers. Please share your ideas with us via this form.
