DEI Committee

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Overview

Description

The DEI Committee was formed to promote greater diversity and inclusivity across the Psychometric Society. The committee is dedicated to embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion across all aspects of the Society’s goals and operations. It monitors existing policies and processes, providing recommendations for improvement. Furthermore, the committee engages with the membership to ensure that a broad spectrum of perspectives and experiences is acknowledged, represented, and incorporated into the Society’s policies, activities, and strategic planning.

Tasks

  1. Organize events and panels. For example,
    1. Organizing events to support junior colleagues, diversity, and better representation of the society’s body;
    2. A panel to discuss and acknowledge current issues and propose ways to move forward; and
    3. A panel about intersectionality in academia.
  2. Review the annual meeting’s scientific program and provide comments to the current President and program committee. A member of this committee can also be assigned to the conference’s program committee.
  3. Review (nominations for) annual career and PhD awards, committee members, and provide feedback to the Executive Committee (EC).
  4. Create biennial reports on diversity statistics for committees and awards.
  5. Responsible for updating the Code of Conduct in collaboration with and with the approval of the EC and the board of trustees (BoT).
  6. Serve as a point of contact for violations of the Code of Conduct and prepare measures to address them.

Membership

To ensure the committee’s effective functioning, its membership is currently limited to a maximum of seven members. However, the committee size can remain flexible, if necessary to ensure underrepresented groups in the society are not overlooked.

The committee’s composition should represent different:

  • Genders,
  • Countries, nationalities, and continents
  • Stages of career

Thus, it should always include at least one early-career person. Similar to other committees, it aims to include a BoT member.

The term of a member is fixed at three years. However, a member can be reappointed for further terms.

When a vacancy arises, it will be advertised to all members, and every member of the society can volunteer to be a candidate for the committee. The committee will decide on the new members.
