Welcome Reception (18th July 2017)
On Tuesday evening we will welcome you on the panorama terrace “Polyterrasse” between the ETH (Federal Institute of Technology) and the University of Zürich. It offers a brilliant view of Zurich`s old town.
One highlight at the welcome reception will be the performance of the “Alphornbläser Zürich". The Alphorn is often called the “Swiss national instrument”, which is traditionally made out of wood. Nowadays it is even made out of carbon or ash. It can be described as a long tube, which is bent like a cow’s horn at the end. Alphorns can often be seen at Swiss parades and thanks to its dimensions it offers a unique atmosphere.
Schaffhausen Excursion (19th July 2017)
Another highlight of the conference in Zurich will be the excursion to Schaffhausen on Wednesday. Beside a phenomenal trip to the waterfalls (Rhine Falls) and the Castle of Laufen, we will have lunch in one of the most impressing fortifications in the center of Schaffhausen, the Munot. It is surrounded by vineyards and offers a brilliant view of Schaffhausen`s old town.
The excursion will include a downhill walk from the Munot to the city center of Schaffhausen as well as a walk down the stone stairways along the Rhine Falls. Alternative transportation will be provided for anyone with limited mobility. Please make sure to indicate in the registration form if you need special assistance.
A brochure about the historic sites in Schaffhausen will be handed out on site. In addition, a podcast is available here to listen to during or after the excursion.
