Lama Temple: (Jonghe Gong Metro, line 2, 3 stops from Jishuitan)- Tranquil home of Tibetan Buddhism with working monks and an 18 meter statue of the Buddha carved from a single sandalwood tree. Opening hours 9:00-17:00.
Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City: (Tian’an Men West Subway, line 1, 6 stops, 1 change from Jishuitan)- World's largest square surrounding by Mao's Mausoleum, History Museum, Great Hall of the People, Forbidden City and Qianmen St. Near National Grand Theater.
Bird’s Nest (National Stadium) and Water Cube (Aquatic Center): (Olympic Green Subway, line 8, 7 stops, 1 change from Jishuitan Subway – 4 stops, 1 change from Mudanyuan Subway). You could visit these sites at the end of the excursion on Thursday and make your own way home that evening.
Note that the Excursion on July 16th will take you to the Great Wall of China and Summer Palace. The coaches will stop for photo opportunities at the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest) and National Aquatic Center (Water Cube) on the way back in the evening.
