Visit the Great Wall and Summer Palace - July 16, 2015
This excursion is included in all IMPS 2015 conference registration packages.
Join the Society and fellow conference goers on a full-day excursion to see some of Beijing’s best tourist attractions.
Transportation will depart from the Jingshi Hotel on Thursday morning. The first stop will be The Great Wall of China. Built in several sections throughout thousands of years, it winds across 8 provinces in Northern China through rugged countryside and mountainous terrain. Considered the longest wall in the world. Each section has it’s own place in Chinese history and offers its own beautiful view of a country with deep roots. Take a few hours at the Great Wall – Juyoung Guan to enjoy the scenery and learn about the history of The Great Wall.
The second stop includes a picnic lunch, and exploring at the Summer Palace. Rebuilt in 1912 after invaders destroyed it, the Summer Palace holds over 3,000 homes and covers 70,000 square feet. Take a boat ride to view the exterior or walk the grounds to see traditional shops by the river, a Buddhist Temple, an entertainment complex and, what is said to be the best-preserved imperial garden in the world. It also displays several items used by Chinese royalty as well as gifts.
On our way back to the hotel, we will pass by the National Stadium (The Birds Nest) and the National Aquatic Center (The Watercube). The bus will stop for photo opportunities (approximately 20 minutes) for those interested in snapping a few photos from the bus window. Attendees are welcome to exit, explore these grounds on their own, and arrange transportation back to the hotel. Both attractions will close around 7 p.m.
A detailed events timeline is available on page 11 of the Program Book. Meet in the Jingshi Hotel Lobby between 7:00am and 7:55am. Buses will depart at 8:00am sharp!
